The Arkansas Clean Coal Technology Conference will be held July 17-18 at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope.

The conference details the state's role in the development and deployment of advanced clean coal technologies and the associated environmental, economic and public policy concerns.

Former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt and Congressman Mike Ross (D-Ark.) will be keynote speakers. Gephardt will discuss national energy security issues, while Ross will give a presentation on federal initiatives in support of clean coal technology and the opportunities available for Arkansas.

Thursday's topics will include advanced coal generation, technology development, emissions reductions, carbon capture and storage and Arkansas energy resources. The program also will feature a panel discussion of greenhouse gases.

During the second day, the economics of coal-based electricity generation and new energy opportunities in the south will be covered. Two panels will focus on the public policy efforts elements essential to preserving the reliability, affordability and security of Arkansas' energy future.

The conference is sponsored by the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity, the Center for Legislative Energy and Environmental Research and the Southern States Energy Board.
