Advanced Cabling Systems of Little Rock announced today its donation of a camera system at the corner of Third and Main streets in downtown Little Rock.
The company donated the hardware, installation and wireless bandwidth service through a collaborative effort with the Little Rock Police Department, the city and the Downtown Little Rock Partnership, according to a press release.
Advanced Cabling Systems did not disclose the value of the donation. The camera was installed in April and has been operating since then.
The camera will allow officers at the Little Rock Police Department's River Market station to observe the area. According to the release, the camera offers clear day or night viewing of the entire intersection.
The system will send Little Rock police a live feed at 24 frames per second to the River Market station. It is being recorded in west Little Rock at 15 frames per second. The video is archived for two weeks, said Lucie Pathmann, PR director for Stone Ward, the agency that issued the press release.
With the proper passwords, officers can view the feed live via an iPad or iPhone. The camera can be moved in 360 degrees and zoomed in and out remotely, Pathmann said via e-mail.
Sharon Priest, executive director of the Downtown Little Rock Partnership, said that although there are currently no plans for more cameras in the area, more of the devices will probably be installed at some point in the near future.
Priest said that many people are becoming more accustomed to security cameras in public places.
"As long as they're not pointing at somebody's apartment or house or something, people are looking for a safety factor," she said.
