Two basketball teams in the state had big weekends: Arkansas improved its SEC record to 2-1 by beating LSU 69-60. The Razorbacks have not lost a game at home on Mike Anderson's watch this season.
And UALR may have started the season with lukewarm success, but they're currently unmatched in conference play. The Trojans whisked by Arkansas State 63-62, compiling a 5-0 Sun Belt record in the process.
Brandon Mitchell, the reserve Arkansas quarterback, will try to walk on the Razorback basketball team. He was on the bench for Saturday’s victory against LSU and will begin working out with the team this week.
The football coaching staffs at Arkansas and Arkansas State continue to take shape. Arkansas State head football coach Gus Malzahn announced Saturday that Eliah Drinkwitz has been named the Red Wolves’ tight ends coach. The Alma native most recently spent the 2010-11 seasons as an offensive graduate assistant coach at Auburn.
Buckeyes cornerbacks coach Taver Johnson is joining the Razorbacks as linebackers coach and assistant head coach, just weeks after Paul Haynes joined the staff as defensive coordinator. Johnson and Haynes worked together coaching the Ohio State secondary. And Jason Shumaker has been hired as director of high school relations at Arkansas.
