Little Rock Christian Academy and Forest Park Elementary School in Little Rock and Russell D. Jones Elementary School in Rogers are among 219 public and 50 private schools in the country to receive the Blue Ribbon School award, according to U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.
The program recognizes schools in one of two performance categories:
- Exemplary High Performing, in which schools are recognized among their state's highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally-normed tests
- Exemplary Improving, in which schools that have at least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds demonstrate the most progress in improving student achievement levels as measured by state assessments or nationally-normed tests
Little Rock Christian, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary, earned the designation for exemplary high performance in all divisions -- elementary, middle school and high school.
The three schools will be honored at a recognition ceremony in Washington D. C. in November.
