Much Ado About April: Big Entrepreneurial Events Set to Open Spring in Arkansas

April, approaching fast, brings with it some important dates to remember in the Arkansas entrepreneurial community.
If you know of some we didn’t include, please include ‘em in comments. But for now, here we go….
- April 4-5, 10: Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup semifinalists and finalists will make their presentations on April 4 and 5 from the Chancellor Hotel in Fayetteville. The actual Governor’s Cup is scheduled for Wed., April 10, at the Statehouse Convention Center. The Governor’s Cup is the premier collegiate business-plan competition in the state, with winners going on to compete against the top plans from Oklahoma and Nevada in the Tri-State Governor’s Cup, held in Las Vegas in May. In recent years, Arkansas teams have fared well in prestigious international competitions as well as Tri-State.
- April 5-7: Startup Weekend Little Rock debuts on April 5 from the Clinton School of Public Service. The first event of the international Startup Weekend movement in Arkansas, Startup Weekend Little Rock will gather local and state entrepreneurs to network, team up and form operational startups. The event runs Friday through Sunday. The winning startup plan will receive $1,000 in startup expenses plus a range of highly sought-after consulting services. Register here.
- April 7: This is the final application deadline for the second installment of the critically acclaimed and just generally awesome ARK Challenge business accelerator. The ARK was featured in the UA’s Short Takes video series last week. Who knows, your ARK Challenge startup may even go on to launch at the Super Bowl.
- April 26: Rounding out the month, we have the second-annual El Dorado Entrepreneur Conference on April 26 at the magnificent El Dorado Conference Center. This year’s event will feature a Gone in 60 Seconds elevator pitch contest, the city’s second. The impressive speaker lineup includes IA’s own Jeff Amerine, former Governor’s Cup winner and Shark Tank fundee Jessica Haynes of JesKa Shoe Co., and Jason Lucash of OrigAudio.
