These materials enable bright yet very low energy-consuming, long-lasting white light for general illumination applications; improve the efficiency of solar cells by making parts of the solar spectrum useful that are otherwise wasted as heat; and enable early cancer diagnoses and real-time monitoring of the efficacy of cancer therapies.
